On the men's side, Augustana welcomes five athletes who call Sioux Falls home. "We were very fortunate to have some of the top men's talent in the state right in our back yard," head cross country and track & field coach
Tracy Hellman said.
Hellman also continues to capitalize on his strong ties with Norway, pulling another distance runner from the Scandinavian country in Petter Gullickson.
The women's team is joined by three South Dakota natives, two international students, and athletes from California, Colorado, Iowa, and Minnesota.
"Our objective was to bring in recruits that can impact the NSIC early in their collegiate career, regardless of their home town," assistant track and field coach
Greg Binstock said. "I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to work with such talented student-athletes both on and off the field."
Augustana's 2012 cross country squads both finished in the top five at the NCAA Championships and each team took home conference and region titles. Four women and two men earned All-America honors in cross country.
The men's track and field team finished second at the NSIC meet while the women placed third. The Vikings sent six athletes to the NCAA Track and Field Championships with three men earning All-America honors and
Runa Falch finishing runner-up in the 10,000-meter run.
