SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Six Augustana wrestlers earned top-eight rankings in the latest NCAA Super Region 3 rankings released on Tuesday morning.
TJ North claimed the top spot at 125 pounds and four Vikings rank high enough to garner team points.
North rose up the ranks in the super region rankings and has held the top spot at 125 pounds for the past three releases. Currently ranked fifth in the NCAA Division II rankings, North defeated the No. 1 ranked wrestler, Alex Johns of Indianapolis, at the Ranger Duals.
Sean Derry and
Jayd Docken both held onto their No. 3 rankings after debuting starting the season in the same spot. At 184 pounds, Derry is tied with North for the best record on the Vikings at 22-3. Docken has suffered just one loss this season and holds a 10-1 record at 197 pound for the Vikings.
Morgan Engbrecht debuts in the rankings at 133 pounds after beginning the season wrestling one weight class lower. Engbrecht is currently ranked sixth at 133 pounds and owns a 5-2 record while wrestling at 133 pounds in Viking duals.
Based on the rankings of the four previous athletes, Augustana collected 34 and ranks sixth among Super Region 3 teams. North earned 12 points for his top billing, Derry and Docken collected nine each at No. 3 in their respective classes, and Engbrecht adds four with his sixth-place ranking.
Also appearing in the rankings from the Vikings are
Jacob Anderson (141 pounds) and
Shawn Hatlestad (149 pounds) who both check in at seventh in their respective weight classes.
The Vikings close out their home schedule with a 7 p.m. dual against Northern State on Thursday, Jan. 18 in the Elmen Center.
