NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. – The Augustana men's and women's cross country teams turned in dominating performances at the Briar Cliff Invite Saturday morning.

"I was pleased with our results today from our group, we had goals of running near the front and being mentally strong throughout the race." Head Coach Tracy Hellman said. "We had some great performances and we had many in our group set personal best times. This was another great step in the right direction as we get closer to the Championship portion of our season."

The women's team had five out of the six runners turn in top-12 performances. The Vikings were led by sophomore Cassidy Soli and senior Kaitlyn Yoerg. Soli turned in a team-best for Augustana finishing second, clocking a time of 17:56.  Yoerg followed Soli's performance tabbing a fourth-place finish with a time of 18:17.

Soli's and Yoerg's scores propelled the Vikings to a 34-point finish, only five points behind Creighton University who tabbed first-place honors. Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference rival Southwest Minnesota State, took fifth-place with 139 total points.

Both Soli and Yoerg were in the front pack the first half of the race and held on to take second and fourth place finishes. Megan Brown and Avery Selberg placed ninth and 10th, respectively, while Emma Anderson finished 11th.

On the men's side, Augustana had only third runners that competed in the 8,000-meter race resulting in the Vikings not having a team score to place at the Briar Cliff Invite.

Freshman Logan Burns was battling in the top-10 throughout the race, but came up short to place 13th overall, clocking a time of 26.15.

"I felt that [Cassidy] Soli had a breakout race on the women's side." Hellman said. " While on the men's side, [Logan] Burns ran well and is starting to show good form."

Augustana now prepares for the UW-Oshkosh AAE Invitational on Oct. 18 in Oshkosh, Wis.
