BISMARCK, N.D. – No. 19 Augustana Volleyball defeats the University of Mary in three sets with scores of 25-19, 25-21, and 25-19 Saturday afternoon in Bismarck, N.D.
With the victory, the Vikings improved to 14-4 (7-3 NSIC), while U-Mary dropped to 3-16 (0-10 NSIC)
Courtney Ysker and
Brittany Cech led the way for Augustana with eight kills apiece.
Bailey Koch recorded six kills on the three-set sweep.
Sydney Hunsley and
Ashley Wilson tallied five kills each, while
Becca Finley led the Vikings with seven block assists.
Setter
Marissa Johnson had a team-best 15 assists, while
Tahlyr Banks added 13 digs.
Augustana's defense held the Marauders to a .062 hitting percentage during the match.
U-Mary took control early in the first set, jumping out to a 10-4 lead. The Vikings rallied with three straight points to tie the set at 13. Augustana recorded 10 out of the next 13 points to push ahead 23-15. Two final errors from the Marauders gave the Vikings the first set 25-19. Hunsley led Augustana with three kills, while hitting an impressive .750 (3-0-4) attack percentage.
U-Mary started out the second set strong once again recording the first four points. Hunsley gave the Vikings an 11-10 lead with a kill at the net, but the Marauders answered tallying the next four straight points to push ahead 14-11. Three back-to-back kills from Wilson and Cech tied the set at 14. From there, Ysker gave Augustana an advantage with two back-to-back kills making the score 21-18. The Vikings closed out the second set winning 25-21 to head into intermission.
The third set was a different story, as Augustana would dominate from the opening serve in the set to lead 12-6. U-Mary regained focus chipping away to only trail by four points, but the Vikings maintained in front leading 22-14. Five straight points from the Marauders brought the score to 23-18. A final error from U-Mary gave Augustana the third set 25-19, and the 3-0 victory.
The Vikings will return home to host cross-town rival University of Sioux Falls (5-5 NSIC) on Tuesday. Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Elmen Center.
