No. 3 Golden Bears defeat No. 20 Vikings in three sets

ST.PAUL, Minn. – The Augustana College volleyball team was swept by No. 3 Concordia-St. Paul Friday night in the Gangelhoff Center with scores of 24-26, 22-25, and 14-25.

With the loss, the Vikings record falls to 14-6 (7-5 NSIC), while the Golden Bears improved to 17-3 (10-2 NSIC).

Senior Courtney Ysker and Freshman Ashley Wilson rounded out the group of double-digit performances with Ysker tallying 11 kills and Wilson following with 10.

Bailey Koch notched eight kills on the night, while Brittany Cech added seven.

Setter Marissa Johnson dished out a team-best 23 assists.

In set one, Concordia opened the match with an early 6-0 lead, causing the Vikings to call a timeout. Augustana responded going on a 4-0 run to cut the Golden Bears lead with a score of 10-9. With a kill and solo block, Sydney Hunsley gave the Vikings its first lead of the night 11-10. Both teams tied the set 13 times, before Concordia pulled ahead taking the first set 26-24. Koch and Ysker led Augustana with five kills apiece.

The Vikings jumped out to a 9-5 advantage in the second set, capped off by four consecutive points. The Golden Bears battled back by chipping away going on a 6-0 run bringing the set to 18 apiece. Concordia cut Augustana's momentum pushing ahead to take their first lead 20-19 late in the second set. The third-ranked team never looked back taking the set 25-22 to head into intermission.

In the third and final set, the Golden Bears jumped out to an early 12-5 lead. The Vikings responded going on a 4-0 run to cut their deficit by four points, trailing 12-8. Concordia grabbed nine out of the last 11 points to take the final set 25-14.

The Vikings continue their road trip Saturday, as they will take on Minnesota State Mankato. First serve is slated for 4 p.m.
