WINNECONNE, Wis. – Augustana's men's and women's cross country teams were up to the challenge on Saturday morning placing in the top-five among Division II and III schools at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational.

The Vikings showcased its top-10 national rankings Saturday against 27 other Division II and III nationally ranked teams.

"Both teams had outstanding finishes today in a very deep and loaded field." Head Coach Tracy Hellman said. "We beat some good teams but more importantly we continued to take positive steps in the right direction."

On the men's side, No.8 Vikings tallied 154 points as they captured fourth-place honors at the meet. No.1 North Central (DIII) took first-place capturing 36 points, while No.2 Grand Valley State (DII) tabbed second-place honors with 69 points. No.3 UW-Eau Claire (DIII) followed by tallying 140 points for a third-place finish. No.23 UW-Parkside (DIII) rounded out the top-five spots totaling 181 points.

The men's team surpassed 10 out of the 14 top ranked team in the nation, such as No.11 Wabash (DIII) and No.25 Lewis (DII).

Adam Braun led Augustana for the second time this season finishing 13th overall after recording a time of 24:49 in the 8,000-meter course. Keegan Carda followed a mere 13 seconds behind Braun's performance to notch a 24th-place finish (25:02) for the Vikings. John Klecker and Nathan Hauge contributed to Augustana's score finishing 32nd and 38th, respectively, while Glen Ellingson placed 48th to round out to top-five for the Vikings.

"Our men had a solid day and with a little more sharpness, we will be where we need to be." Hellman said. "I felt [Keegan] Carda had a great race and [Adam] Braun was solid for us upfront.

The women faced 13 of the Top-25 opponents in Division II and III passing eight nationally ranked teams, including No.6 Washington (DIII) and No.9 Willamette (DIII). The No.7 Vikings finished fifth overall with 135 points on the Lake Breeze Golf Club course.

No.1 Grand Valley State took first-place recording 40 total points, followed by Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference rival No.3 Minnesota Duluth, tabbed second place with 98 points.

For a second time this season, Augustana was led by two freshman runners Annie Kruse and Leah Seivert. Kruse turned in the best performance for the Vikings with an 11th place finish, clocking a time of 21:34. Seivert followed pushing to a 15th place finish for Augustana with a time of 21:39. Meritxell Delgado finished 21st and Kaitlyn Yoerg 43rd. Cassidy Soli rounded out the top-five for the Vikings finishing 45th.

"I thought our women ran tough in a loaded field." Hellman said. "It wasn't our best race, but we are getting closer to putting it all together. [Meritxell] Delgado really stepped up and had a good race along with [Kaitlyn] Yoerg."

Augustana is getting set for the conference championship that is three weeks away. The Vikings will closes out regular season of competition next Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Mount Marty Invite.
