Stephanie Stevens delivered the late-match heroics for No. 22 Augustana soccer in a 2-1 win in double overtime on Saturday at Sea Foam Stadium. The victory improved the Vikings' record to 11-2 (9-1 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) on the year, while the Golden Bears dropped to 4-8-1 (3-6-1 NSIC).
Stevens finished the match with a goal and an assist. The Ankeny, Iowa native now has back-to-back games with at least a goal and an assist. The junior's four goals are a career high this season.
Ashley Limmer picked up her 11th win in goal for Augustana, a new team record for most wins in a season by a goalie. Limmer made four saves in the road win.
The Vikings outshot CU 19-14 on the day.
Payton Pry netted her team-leading 10th goal of 2014 early in the match at the 6:17 mark in the first half. Pry put the ball into the back of the net after receiving Stevens' pass behind the keeper to give Augustana the 1-0 lead. It was Stevens' third assist of the year.
Both teams went back and forth with each other the rest of the half with neither being able to capitalize on scoring chances they created, leading to a 1-0 lead for the Vikings going into halftime.
Concordia-St. Paul really took control of possession in the second half, spending a lot of time in Augustana's side of the pitch. The Golden Bears finally broke through and tied up the match at 1-1 in the 82nd minute on Alahna Anderson's goal.
Neither team was able to score the final eight minutes of regulation, resulting in extra time being needed to settle the match.
Stevens came through for the Vikings in the 109th minute, scoring the golden goal off an
Ellie Westemeyer pass that the junior midfielder rolled into the right side of the net to give Augustana the 2-1 win.
The Vikings are back in action on Sunday in a matchup with No. 1 Minnesota State (13-0, 10-0 NSIC) at 1 p.m. in Mankato, Minn.
