SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana College volleyball drops in five sets to Winona State Saturday night in the Elmen Center with scores of 25-22, 22-25, 18-25, 25-22, 8-15 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matchup.
With the loss, the Vikings dropped to 15-8 (8-7 NSIC), while the Warriors improved to 15-6 (10-5 NSIC).
Three Augustana players recorded double-digits on the night.
Courtney Ysker led the Vikings with her 12th double-double tallying 22 kills and 22 digs.
Sophomore
Brittany Cech finished close behind with a career-high 14 kills and 21 digs grabbing her fourth double-double of the season.
Ashley Wilson added 13 kills with a team-best .458 (13-2-24) attack percentage.
Marissa Johnson directed the offense recording her 13th double-double with 41 assists and 12 digs.
Defensively,
Tahlyr Banks led Augustana with 24 digs.
In the first set the Vikings jumped out to an early 4-1 lead. Winona State responded by tying the set at eight apiece, followed by going on a 3-0 run to lead 11-8. Augustana continued to battle, going back on a 5-0 run to jump ahead 13-11. Both teams tied five different times halting the match at 20 apiece, before Ysker finished at the net with a kill giving the Vikings the first set 25-22.
Augustana continued to dominate in the second set leading early 6-3 forcing the Warriors to take a timeout. Winona State followed by going on a 4-0 run to tie the set at eight a piece. Both teams traded leads six different times tying the set at 19 apiece before the Warriors closed out the second set 25-22 by taking the final two points.
Both teams tied 1-1 apiece to head into intermission.
Following intermission, Winona State jumped out to an early 11-7 lead. Two back-to-back kills from Wilson allowed the Vikings to only trail the Warriors by three points. Winona State tallied six out of the next nine points to jump ahead 18-12. Three straight points from Augustana cut their deficit to only five points with a score of 20-15. Two final kills from the Warriors closed out the third set 25-18.
In the fourth set both teams tied five different times before the Winona State jumped ahead with a score of 10-6. The Vikings retaliated going on a 5-0 run to regain the lead 12-11. Cech recorded two final kills to close out the fourth set with a score of 25-22.
In the fifth and final set, both teams tied at three apiece before Warriors used a 10-2 run over Augustana to push ahead 13-5. A final kill from the Winona State allowed them to take the fifth and final set 15-8.
The Vikings hit the road on Tuesday, Oct. 28 to match-up against Wayne State. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
