The Short Story: Minnesota State's Zach Monaghan and Assem Marei combined for 54 points, including 29 in the second half alone, to down Augustana on Friday night. Monaghan led all players with 29 points connecting on five 3-pointers. Marei added 25 points and 14 rebounds for the Mavericks.
 
How it happened
• After Augustana built a 23-16 lead over the first 12 minutes of the game, the Mavericks ended the half on a 19-6 run over the final 6:09 to take a six-point halftime lead.
• Augustana's 29 points in the first 20 minutes, was a season-low points in a half.   
• Minnesota State extended its run to 23-6 in the opening minute of the second half to build a 10-point 39-29 lead forcing Augustana to burn an early timeout.
• Augustana nearly erased the 10-point deficit by going on an 11-2 run to get within one at 41-40 with 16:38 to play. Alex Richter hit two 3-pointers during the run while Zach Huisken connected on a 3-point-play.
• As quickly as the Vikings got back into the game, MSU built a double-digit lead just over a minute and a half later as Monaghan began to catch fire from 3-point range.
• The Mavericks hit eight 3-pointers over a nine minute stretch to take their largest lead of the night at 21 (76-55) with six minutes remaining to play.
