MANKATO, Minn. - Augustana's
CJ Ham broke his own school record in the weight throw and provisionally qualified in two events while
Aduo Omot and
Emma Anderson swept the men's and women's 1,000-meter run on Friday and Saturday at the Minnesota State Muli and Open. A total of 17 Augustana athletes placed at the two-day event in Mankato.
On Friday, Ham bested his school record by nearly a foot, placing fourth with a best toss of 17.28 meters (56 feet, 8.5 inches). After falling just two centimeter shy of a provisional mark, Ham earned his first provisional mark of the season with his toss. Taking third in the shot put, Ham hit another provisional mark with a best throw of 15.86 meters (52 feet, 0.5 inches).
Omot and Anderson made it the third meet of the season with a Viking tandem sweeping a mid-distance event. Omot clocked a 2:33.64 time in the 1,000-meter run for his first-place finish and Anderson finished her five laps in 3:02.11 for the women's title. Anderson's time ranks as the top time in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and Omot's mark ranks second in the league.
Anderson added a second top-three finish, placing third in the mile run with a time of 5:07.80 with teammate
Kaitlyn Yoerg finishing in sixth. Yoerg also took eighth in the 1,000-meter run and
Jake Connealy placed seventh in the men's 1,000-meter run.
Augustana placed two runners in fourth in the men's and women's 400-meter dash with
Skyler Kuil (50.83 seconds) and
Kayla Mescher (58.43 seconds), respectively.
Colleen Everson placed seventh in the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.15.
All three of those runners had a hand in some impressive 4x400-meter relay times. The men's squad missed a provisional mark by just over three tenths of a second, finishing fourth with a time of 3:25.24. The women clocked their fastest time of the season, taking second in 3:56.43.
Zach Tuschen earned the highest finish of his young collegiate career, placing second in the men's 600-meter run by circling the track three times in 1:23.04.
Augustana placed two runners in the top six of the 200-meter dash.
Carina Hofmeister (25.74 seconds) placed fourth in the women's race and
Justin Greenway (22.48 seconds) placed sixth -- both times rank as the fastest for Augustana's women's and men's teams, respectively.
The hurdles duo of
Ryan Heuer and
Brandon Gildemaster took fourth and fifth respectively. Heuer clocked a 8.45-second run in the finals and Gildemaster finished in 8.51 seconds in the finals.
Kyerra Titus-Baer logged a 8.03-second run in the women's 60-meter dash prelims then finished in eighth with a 8.12-second run in the finals.
On Friday night,
Petter Gulliksen registered an eighth-place finish in the men's 3,000-meter run with a 9:16.37 time.
The Vikings return home only to trip back to Mankato for the Ted Nelson Classic on Feb. 8 in Myers Fieldhouse on the campus of Minnesota State.
