Ham highlights Vikings trip to USD with record-breaking mark

VERMILLION, S.D.
- Raising his school-record mark in the weight throw, CJ Ham highlighted Augustana's trip to the USD Twilight Open that featured three qualifying marks for the Vikings. Ham reached qualifying marks in the weight throw and shot put and Ryan Heuer collected his second 60-meter hurdles qualifying time of the season.
 
Winning his first weight throw event of the season, Ham continued his stellar junior campaign with a 17.99-meter (59 feet, 0.25 inches) heave to continue to improve his school record. Ham also finished fourth in the shot put competition, bettering his qualifying mark to 16.26 meters (53 feet, 4.25 inches).
 
Heuer earned his first qualifying mark of the season last week and he again hit the qualifying standard with his second-place finish and 8.31-second run in the 60-meter hurdles. Brandon Gildemaster finished fifth with his season-best performance, an 8.43-second time.
 
Justin Greenway logged his first win of the season, taking the 200-meter title with a 22.54-second lap. Brother Jason Greenway took third in the both 200-meter run (22.75 seconds) and the 60 meters (7.01 seconds) with Justin placing seventh (7.09) in the 60-meter dash.
 
In the women's 60-meter dash, Kyerra Titus-Baer turned in the second-fastest preliminary time at 7.89 seconds then placed fourth in the final at 8.05 seconds -- Laura Popanz placed sixth (8.13) in the event.
 
Making her track debut, former Augustana soccer standout Kara Bartels placed fourth in the women's 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.76. On the men's side, Zach Tuschen equaled Bartels' effort with a 2:00.83 run.
 
Kirsten Nyberg collected a fourth-place finish in the women's 200-meter dash with a time of 26.60 seconds. Sister Karmen Nyberg placed sixth (1:01.70) in the 400-meter run and Zach Jones finished fourth in the men's division with a 51.55-second time.
 
Calliann Brunswig doubled-up on top-eight finishes, taking third in the long jump (5.08 meters; 16 feet, 8 inches) and seventh in the 60-meter hurdles (9.33 seconds). Katie Tonner joined Brunswig in the top eight of the long jump with a 4.89-meter (16 feet, 0.5 inches) jump.
 
Christine Campbell (10.79 meters; 35 feet, 5 inches) and Kaylynn Erlandson (10.55 meters; 34 feet, 7.5 inches) placed fourth and fifth in the women's triple jump. Campbell also placed sixth in the women's high jump with a 1.55-meter (5 feet, 1 inch) clearance.
 
Augustana next heads to Bemidji, Minn. for the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference championships on Feb. 28 and March 1.
