MATCH SCORES
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Augustana men's tennis spent the first four weeks of the season on the road, but they opened their home schedule with a 7-2 win over Morningside on Friday night. The Vikings improve their record to 3-4 on the season while the Mustangs lost their fourth consecutive match and fall to 1-5.
Giving themselves a three-match lead, the Vikings swept the doubles contests. The No. 1 Augustana pairing earned an 8-3 win, quickly followed by an 8-2 victory at No. 2, and the No. 3 singles pairing completed the sweep with an 8-4 win.
In singles competition,
Jared Hofer battled back from a harrowing first-set 6-2 defeat to even the match, taking the second set by the same score. Hofer emerged with the win after winning the super tiebreaker 10-7 in the no. 1 singles match.
Collin Noldner also battled back from a first-set loss, 7-5, to win the second 6-2, but Noldner was handed the second-flight singles loss with a 10-6 super tiebreaker loss.
Jackson Buchanan earned the team match-clinching win with a dominating 6-1, 6-2 win. At one point in the No. 3 singles match, Buchanan won 12 consecutive points to ensure a victory.
Colan Surratt earned an early break, but the junior couldn't hold on, losing the No. 4 singles match 6-4, 6-3.
Brock Baade and
Evan Richards put the finishing touches on the Viking win taking the no. 5 singles match 6-2, 6-2 and No. 6 singles contest 6-0, 6-2, respectively.
Augustana now travels to St. Peter, Minn. to take on Division III power Gustavus Adolphus Saturday night at 6:30 p.m.
