The 18 athletes come from five states (South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, and Nebraska) and three hail from Norway, continuing Augustana's strong ties to the Scandinavian country.
"What was also important for this class, was the 'fit' that we needed on our teams," Hellman said. "We feel that we signed some big -time talent and we are moving forward towards our goal of one of the best programs in NCAA Division II."
The Vikings' men's and women's squads finished second and third at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Championships on March 1 and both teams placed top-five at the NCAA Cross Country Championships this fall. Assistant coach
Greg Binstock knows the heightened competition can only be offset by recruiting athletes who can contribute early.
"Looking at how the NSIC has developed recently, it is important for our recruits to come in and be able to score at a conference meet," Binstock said. "As a coaching staff, we feel that this class has several athletes who can certainly do that in the future.
Located in Sioux Falls, S.D., Augustana is a member of NCAA Division II and competes in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
