PUERTO RICO - Augustana finished its five-match trip to Puerto Rico with their fourth-straight win, taking down Division I Valparaiso 8-1 on Friday afternoon. The Vikings improve to 13-1 on the season and the Crusaders fall to 1-13.
The Vikings opened the match winning five of the six singles contests, with most in commanding fashion.
Katie Jesperson cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles and
Jessa Richards followed with a 6-0 6-3 victory one spot behind her.
The Vikings only loss came at No. 3 singles when
Christine Olivo fell in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0.
Jenna Helleberg quickly answered with a dominating 6-0, 6-3 win at the fourth-flight singles spot.
Meredith Lawrence rolled in No. 5 singles match, winning 6-0, 6-1, while
Heather Sullivan shut her opponent out with a 6-0, 6-0 win for Augustana's No. 6 singles player.
Jesperson and Richards wasted no time in the top doubles match, winning 8-2. The No. 2 Viking tandem of Olivo and Sullivan notched an 8-4 victory and Augustana's No. 3 duo Helleberg and Lawrence won by the same 8-4 margin.
The Vikings return home for a pair of matches on March 22 and 23 against College of St. Benedict and Bemidji State, respectively.
