ST. PETER, Minn. - Augustana nearly pulled out two matches, but Division III power and current No. 18 team Gustavus Adolphus shut out the Vikings 9-0 on Saturday night. Augustana's record falls to 3-5 while the Gusties improve to 9-1 on the year.
Jared Hofer twice came within a game of winning his matches, but the sophomore Sioux Falls native couldn't break through. Hofer lost 7-5, 7-5 in his singles contest and was edged 9-7 in the No. 1 doubles match.
Playing up at No. 2, Jackson Buchana nearly pulled out a first set win, losing in a tiebreaker, but he eventually fell in straight sets, 7-6, 7-1.
Collin Noldner suffered the same fate, dropping his third-flight singles match, 6-4, 6-2.
Colan Surratt and
Evan Richards suffered 6-1, 6-0 losses at No. 4 and 6 doubles, respectively, and
Brock Baade fell 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 5 singles match.
No. 2 doubles pairing of Buchanan and Baade fell in their match, 8-5, and Surratt and Richards lost 8-0.
The Vikings now head to Puerto Rico for four matches from March 10-14.
