SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Augustana's No. 1 doubles pairing of
Jared Hofer and
Collin Noldner recorded their fifth straight win, but it wasn't enough for as St. Cloud State handed the Vikings an 8-1 loss in their season finale. Augustana ends the 2014 campaign with a 5-10 record while the Huskies improve to a 12-10 mark with one match remaining.
Hofer and Noldner scored their second win over the top SCSU pairing this season and their fifth consecutive victory to finish the season. The top Viking tandem recorded a late break to earn a 8-6 win, but the rest of the Vikings weren't able to replicate.
Jackson Buchanan and
Brock Baade suffered an 8-1 defeat in the second-flight doubles contest and
Colan Surratt and
Evan Richards couldn't turn the tides for the Vikings with an 8-2 loss in the No. 3 doubles match.
The top two singles pairings pitted all four players from the highly-contested No. 1 doubles contest, but the Vikings couldn't equal their efforts in the singles match. Hofer fell in a tight No. 1 singles match 7-5, 6-4, and Noldner forced a third set with a second set comeback, but fell for the second time in a three-set match to SCSU's Victor Kasak, this time by a 6-1, 2-6, 12-10 margin.
Buchanan battled in the No. 3 doubles contest, but couldn't break through, dropping the match 6-1, 6-0. Surratt rebounded after a harrowing first-set loss, but the Huskies' Joao Orsi was too much for the Augustana junior and came away with a 6-0, 6-1 win.
Baade was outmatched in the fifth-flight singles contest, falling 6-0, 6-0, and Richards suffered similar fate with a 6-1, 6-0 defeat in the No. 6 singles contest.
