Women's basketball announces two more to 2014 class

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Head coach Dave Krauth announced the signing of two players on Friday. Erin Benson from Chester, S.D. and Emily Wimmer out of Cottage Grove, Minn. Each will continue their academic and athletic careers at Augustana beginning in the fall.

Erin Benson is a 5-6 point guard and a three-time first-team All-Big East selection from Chester Area School. Benson averaged 12.9 points, 5.4 assists, and 3.1 steals during her senior season. The Chester, S.D. native helped lead her team to a district championship during the 2013-14 season. Benson also played in the district championship in her junior year while averaging 13.7 points, 4.1 assists, and 2.95 steals per game over the course of the season.

Emily Wimmer is another post player joining the Vikings' frontcourt this upcoming season. The 6-1 post player is a four-year letterwinner and was named team captain for her junior and senior seasons. Wimmer brings a defensive presence, averaging 8.0 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game off the bench her senior season. The Cottage Grove, Minn. native was an Academic All-State selection during the 2013-14 season. Wimmer also helped guide her team to both regular season and conference tournament championships as part of a 24-4 record her senior year and set the school career block shots record with 274 during her four years at St. Croix Lutheran.

Augustana is coming off a 16-12 season with an 11-11 record in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, good for fourth place in the South division.
