MATCH SCORES
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Playing just their second home match of the season, Augustana's top players hung tough with regionally-ranked Nebraska-Kearney, but the Lopers's depth was too much for the Vikings in an 8-1 loss on Sunday afternoon.
Augustana (5-9) scored a big victory over Nebraska Kearney's (13-4) top doubles pairing which came into the match billed as the No. 6 tandem in the Central Region. The Viking duo of
Jared Hofer and
Collin Noldner scored an early break and held on to earn the 8-5 win over UNK's top duo.
The Vikings weren't as fortunate in the other double matchups with
Jackson Buchanan and
Brock Baade falling 8-1 in the no. 2 doubles match and
Colan Surratt and
Evan Richards dropping the third-flight contest by the same score.
Hofer and Noldner again had tough matchups in their singles matches, but couldn't equal their magic as individuals. Hofer fell in the No. 1 singles match 6-3, 6-1 and Noldner suffered a tough three-set loss.
In the No. 2 singles contest, Noldner earned a first-set victory but fell in the second set by way of a tiebreaker then in the third-set super tiebreaker for a 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 10-5 loss.
The Lopers then rolled to four more victories for the 8-1 win. Buchanan fell at No. 3 singles to the 17th-ranked player in the region 6-2, 6-1, and Surratt dropped the No. 4 singles contest 6-1, 6-1.
Baade couldn't turn the tides in the Vikings favor, losing the fifth-flight contest 6-0, 6-2 and Richards was stymied in the No. 6 singles match by a 6-1, 6-0 margin.
Augustana closes the 2014 season with a home match against St. Cloud State on April 11 at 5:30 p.m.
