No. 24 Vikings extend winning streak to six with 3-0 shutout win of MSU Moorhead

BOX SCORE

MOORHEAD, Minn.
– No. 24 Augustana picked up their sixth straight win in style on Saturday with a 3-0 shutout of MSU Moorhead in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Confernce play. With the win, the Vikings improved their record to 6-1 (4-0 NSIC) with the victory, while the Dragons dropped to 1-5 (0-4 NSIC).

Augustana's shutout was its fifth straight, tying the team record set back in 2008.

The Vikings' Samantha Arnold kept her role as super sub going strong, scoring one goal and handing out an assist in just 44 minutes of action.

Samantha Tymkowicz netted her fourth goal of the year in the victory, tying her with fellow freshman forward Arnold for the team lead.

Stephanie Stevens chipped in with her second goal of year, scoring it on a penalty kick early in the second half.

Augustana was a force on the offensive end, putting up 25 shots, which tied a season high.

Arnold broke open the scoreless tie in the 25th minute -- less than two minutes are being subbed into the match -- of regulation off a great pass from Annie Thoresen, who picked up third assist of the year on the goal.

The Vikings offensive dominated possession for much of the first half, outshooting the Dragons 9-3 in the first 45 minutes, and took a 1-0 lead into halftime. Augustana also had near scoring chances by Payton Pry and Tymkowicz.

Stevens made it a two-goal game in the early moments of the second half, scoring on a penalty kick at the 48:31 mark. It was the second goal of the season for the Ankeny, Iowa native.

Tymkowicz and Arnold would team up to make it 3-0 Vikings in the 70th minute of the match. The former Bishop Heelan star took Arnold's pass and fired it past the keeper for her fourth goal of 2014.  For Arnold, it was her third assist of the year.

Augustana's defense kept the shutout streak intact from there, giving the Vikings the 3-0 win.

The Vikings return to action tomorrow to take on Northern State in Aberdeen, S.D. Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
