STILLWATER, Minn. – The Augustana men's golf team got its fall season off to a good start with a third-place finish at the Maverick Invitational on Monday.
The Vikings shot a 311 in the final round of the seven-team Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference tournament, bringing their total to 612 (301-311) for the two-day event at Loggers Trail Golf Club.
The Huskies of St. Cloud State took home the team title after firing a 300 on Monday to bring their total to 598 (298-300), two shots ahead of Minnesota State.
Jack Barnhatt (SCSU), Ross Miller (MSU), and Jono Linquist (WSU) all tied for first after shooting 146 in the two rounds of play.
Clay Kopplin picked up his first top 10 finish of the year after firing a seven-over-par 151 (74-77), good for ninth place.
Drew Trautman was not far beyond, taking 10th after posting a 152 (74-78) in the tournament.
Parker Klitzke finished his first collegiate tournament in a tie for 17th after putting up an 11-over-par 155 (77-78) over the two-day event.
Collin Hammer tied for 19th with a two-round score of 156 (76-80).
Ted Urch wrapped up his first tournament as a Viking taking 27th with a two-day total of 159 (81-78).
Augustana returns to the course for the Nebraska-Kearney Invitational on Sept. 15. The two-day tournament will in be Axtell, Neb.
