SIOUX FALLS, S.D.- No. 25 Augustana University soccer extended its unbeaten streak to 11 with a 3-1 victory over Concordia- St. Paul on Saturday afternoon at Morstad Field. The win gives the Vikings a 11-1-1 record, 9-0-1 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, the loss dropped the Golden Bears record to 6-7-0, 5-5-0 in the NSIC.
The Vikings got off to a slow start in the first half as Concordia- St Paul applied pressure early.
Stephanie Stevens got the Vikings on the board first scoring on a penalty kick in the 19th minute that gave Augustana a 1-0 lead.
Samantha Tymkowicz extended the Vikings lead to 2-0 on a breakaway opportunity thanks to a through-ball pass from
Ellie Knowles. The goal was Tymkowicz's 11th goal of the season, Knowles picked up her fourth assist of the season on the play.
Concordia- St. Paul would cut the Augustana lead to 2-1 in the 53rd minute on a header from Kelli Heytens off a corner kick from Alahna Anderson.
The Vikings would then gain the two-goal lead back in the 84th minute when
Emily Jacobson attempted a cross into the box in which was deflected off of a defender and went into the net for a 3-1 lead for Augustana.
The Vikings will return to the pitch tomorrow as they battle No. 12 Minnesota State at Morstad Field at 1 p.m.
