SIOUX FALLS, S.D.- Samantha Tymkowicz scored with two minutes left in the game to give No. 20 Augustana a 2-1 victory over Minnesota Crookston on Sunday at Morstad Field. The win gives the Vikings a 8-1-1 record, 6-0-1 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, with the defeat the Golden Eagles drops its record to 2-7-1, 2-5-0 in the NSIC.
With the goal, Tymkowicz has eight goals on the season and four of them have been in the game-winning variety.
Kallie Nordberg picked up her second goal of the season.
Augustana had all the pressure in the first half,
Kirsten Smith had three great chances to get the Vikings on the board early but the Golden Eagles defense came up with big saves to keep the game scoreless.
Then in the 37th minute, Nordberg took a cross from
Hannah Keirstead and she buried one home top shelf to give Augustana a 1-0 lead. This was Keirstead third assist of the season.
The Vikings defense held the Golden Eagles offense to zero shots in the half.
It was a back and forth affair to start the second half until the 60th minute when Minnesota Crookston tied the game at one with a goal from Delaney McIntyre from a corner kick. This was the first goal Augustana has given up in 5 games.
At the 88th minute, Tymkowicz took a long pass from
Taylor Machacek, she dribbled up to the top of the box, and ripped one beating the goalie bottom right corner giving the Vikings a 2-1 victory.
Augustana will be on the road next weekend traveling to St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth.
