ST. CLOUD, Minn.- No. 20 Augustana University extended its unbeaten streak to nine with a 3-1 victory over St. Cloud State on Friday night at Husky Stadium. With the win, the Vikings improve to 9-1-1, 7-0-1 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, the loss drops the Huskies to 5-3-2, 4-2-2 in the NSIC.
Samantha Tymkowicz scored two goals for Vikings, bringing her season total to 10.
Emily Jacobson tallied her second goal of the season in the win.
The Vikings started the scoring early in the first half as Tymkowicz scored just five minutes into the match going lower left corner to beat the goalie to make it 1-0.
Stephanie Stevens picked up her team-leading fifth assist of the season on the Tymkowicz goal.
St. Cloud State tied the game in the 24th minute when Naomi Kolhoff scored off a corner kick to make it 1-1.
Less than two minutes later, Tymkowicz scored her second goal of the contest beating the keeper in the lower right corner to give Augustana a 2-1 lead. Jacobson added her second assist of the season on Tymkowicz's second goal.
In the 38th minute, Jacobson broke loose on a breakaway attempt, on a through-ball from
Kallie Nordberg, and beat the keeper in the lower right corner to give the Vikings a 3-1 lead.
In the second half, the Augustana defense clamped down limiting the St. Cloud State offense to just one shot on goal, preserving the 3-1 Vikings victory.
Augustana will be back in action Sunday as they travel to Minnesota Duluth to take on the Bulldogs. The two teams will get underway at 1 p.m. at James S. Malsoky Stadium.
