SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - No. 20 Augustana volleyball (11-4, 4-3) is preparing to host Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference foes, Minnesota Crookston (7-8, 3-4) and Bemidji State (4-12, 2-5) Friday and Saturday.
Augustana is coming off a tough road trip to No. 3 Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota State. The Vikings lost to Concordia in five-sets and the Mavericks in four-sets. The Vikings five-set loss to the Golden Bears dropped Augustana to 1-20 all-time and 0-11 at Concordia, but the Vikings see the losses as learning experiences.
"We see a lot of potential within our team and we also know that we have a lot of room to grow," redshirt junior
Bailey Koch said. "We are taking it as a learning experience and got back in the gym and worked a lot on the things that we couldn't execute and it's going to benefit us in the end."
The Vikings will be looking to rebound from last weekend, hosting Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State. Augustana currently holds a 32-4 combined all-time record against the two NSIC opponents, but won't be taking them lightly.
"Expect a lot of energy and fight from us after this past weekend," redshirt freshman
Lauren Waite said. "We went 0-2 last weekend and we are ready to go 2-0 this weekend."
Augustana is being led offensively by junior
Dani Magdzas, who had 18 kills this past weekend to give her 148 on the season. The Vikings have two other members that have triple-digit kills, junior
Brittany Cech (129) and senior
Sydney Hunsley (118).
Sophomore libero
Tahlyr Banks still leads the NSIC in total digs with 320 and in digs per set average at 5.82. Her 320 digs puts her at 24th nationally in Division II while her digs per set average has her ranked 12th nationally.
Sophomore setter
Alex Banker had found a rhythm with her hitters of late. She posted a career high 31 assists in the five-set loss to Concordia. Banker leads the team with 261 assists with a little less than half a season remaining.
The first serve for the match against Minnesota Crookston is set to begin at 7 p.m. on Friday with Saturdays match-up against Bemidji State scheduled for 3 p.m. Like always you can follow all the action via twitter
