SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana University football team will hit the road for its final regular season road game of 2015 on Saturday, Nov. 7. The Vikings (7-2, 4-1 NSIC South) will travel to Winona, Minn. to take on Winona State (5-4, 3-2 NSIC South) in a critical South Division match-up. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Winona State's Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium.
Augustana enters Saturday's game ranked seventh in the NCAA Super Region Three rankings. A win over the Warriors would help improve on the Vikings already strong playoff resume. Winona State toppled top-ranked Minnesota State on Oct. 24 to help shake things up in the NSIC South and Super Region Three.
The Vikings own one of the strongest strength of schedules in the country in 2015. Entering Saturday's game, Augustana has played the ninth toughest schedule in Division II with opponents combining for a record of 45-27 (not including results against Augustana) through 10 weeks. Augustana is tied with Southwest Minnesota State for the toughest schedule in the NSIC and ninth in Division II. Seton Hill (Pa.) is the only team in the country that has faced more opponents with more combined victories (46) than Augustana or SMSU.
At 7-2 on the season, Augustana is off to its best start since 2010 through nine games. In 2010, Augustana went 9-0 through nine weeks and finished the season 11-2 making the program's third NCAA Playoff appearance.
The Vikings are coming off a 41-20 win over Upper Iowa last weekend where the defense forced four turnovers and held the Peacocks to field goals on two of their four scoring drives. Augustana currently ranks third in the NSIC scoring 39.1 points per game and has the fourth-best offense in the league averaging 450.3 yards per contest.
Two of the NSIC's best quarterbacks will do battle in Winona, Minn. on Saturday.
Trey Heid enters the game ranking third in the NSIC in passing yards (282.2 per game) and passing touchdowns (21). Winona State's Jack Nelson leads the NSIC averaging 313.9 passing yards per game and has thrown 22 touchdown passes. Heid ranks second in the league averaging 316 yards of total offense per game, Nelson ranks third averaging 310.1 yards per game.
