Augustana defeats Bemidji State on the road Friday

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Augustana women's basketball team (8-1, 3-1 NSIC) defeated Bemidji State (4-4, 0-4 NSIC) 73-48 in their first game of the weekend road trip.

Augustana started out slow Friday night, scoring a season-low seven points in the first-quarter. The Vikings found their rhythm though in the second-quarter, starting the quarter making 4-of-5 shots from the field. They earned their first lead of the game at 25-24 with 2:55 left to play in the second-quarter thanks to a triple from senior Sophie Kenney.  

The Vikings broke it open in the third quarter thanks to some hot shooting that allowed the Vikings to score 21-points and jump out to an 18-point lead, their largest of the day was 24-points in the fourth-quarter.

Senior Leadership

The Vikings were led all night by their two seniors, Nicole Kerkhoff and Kenney. The two seniors kept the Vikings in the game early, scoring the first 17 Augustana points.

Kenney continued her hot shooting as she scored a game-high 20-points, her second 20-point game in her last three games. Kenney was 9-of-12 from the field and 2-of-3 from behind the 3-point arc. Kenney also added a season-high, seven assists and five rebounds.

Kerkhoff scored 13-points in the game while adding seven rebounds. She was 5-of-8 from the field and 3-of-4 from the free-throw line.

By the Numbers

The Vikings had three score in double-figures, Kenney (20), Kerkhoff (13) and Prosser (10). Logan O'Farrell fell just shy of double-digits with 9.

Paige Peterson and Kerkhoff both had seven rebounds in the game. Kenney and Selland added five rebounds and O'Farrell added six.

The Vikings shot 43 percent from the field, 31 percent from behind the 3-point arc and 71 percent from the free-throw line.

Next Up

Augustana will be on the road once again tomorrow night as they cap of their two game road trip against the University of Minnesota Crookston. Tip-off against the Golden Eagles is set for 4 p.m.
