FAYETTE, Iowa- Kirsten Smith scored the lone goal for Augustana soccer, as the Vikings tie Upper Iowa 1-1 on Saturday Afternoon in Fayette Iowa. The Vikings are now 3-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, while the Peacocks are 1-2-2 and 0-1-1 in the NSIC.
In the first half, Augustana got on the board quickly in the second minute when Smith took a cross from
Stephanie Stevens and finished it inside the box. This is Smith's first goal of the season. The Team continued to find scoring chances but the scored remained 1-0 at the half.
In the second half, Upper Iowa put some pressure on the Vikings and then in the 75th minute, Savannah Schinto took a cross and beat
Taylor Machacek top right corner to tie the game at one.
In the overtime period, Machacek kept the game tied when she made a breakaway save against the Peacocks Jordyn Ostrowski. The Vikings had the Peacocks pinned for most of the second overtime but couldn't capitalize on the chances.
Augustana outshot Upper Iowa 32-15, including a 15-9 advantage on shots on goal.
