SIOUX FALLS, S.D.- Augustana University opens up the 2015 regular season with a 5-1 victory over Southwest Baptist Friday night at Morstad Field.

Stephanie Stevens led the offensive explosion for the Vikings with two goals on four shots, she also added an  assist. Samantha Tymkowicz tallied two goals for Augustana, her first career two-goal game. Kallie Nordberg also contributed to the offense with a goal her first career goal at Augustana.

In the first half, Southwest Baptist opened up the scoring with a goal from Averi Walker in the 16th minute. Less than two minutes later Stevens tied it up at 1, with an assist from Kirsten Smith. In the 24th minute Tymkowicz scored on a one-touch shot on a beautiful cross from Stevens. In the 37th minute Nordberg scored off a Bearcats turnover to make the score 3-1 going into the half.

In the second half, Tymkowicz extend the lead to 4-1 with a shot from 15 yards out beating the goalie's right side. Stevens added her second goal in the 59th minute with a steal from the box, beating the goalie top right corner to put the game at 5-1.

The Vikings defense stifled Southwest Baptist attack limiting the Bearcats offense to just two shots in the second half.

Taylor Machacek made three saves in her first career start for the Vikings earning her first victory.

Augustana will be back on the field Sunday afternoon as they host No. 7 Central Missouri kick-off is at 2 p.m.
