SIOUX FALLS, S.D.- Augustana University soccer fell to No. 7 Central Missouri Sunday afternoon at Morstad Field. With the loss the Vikings drop down to 1-1, while the Jennies improve to 2-0 on the season.
Samantha Tymkowicz scored the lone goal for Augustana on five shots while
Stephanie Stevens added four shots. Goalkeeper
Taylor Machacek stopped five shots for the Vikings.
In the first half, it was a back and forth contest as Machacek came up with some big saves early on. Central Missouri got on the board first in the 23rd minute with a goal from Julie Ireland. The Vikings then went on the attack getting some quality shots from
Emily Jacobson. Just before the half Augustana misplayed a pass in which Mikala Modiri scored to extend the Jennies lead to two.
In the second half, the Vikings turned up the pressure getting some quality chances which were stopped by Central Missouri's goalkeeper Ana Dilkes. In the 60th minute Tymkowicz and Jacobson both had quality chances in the box which were stopped by Dilkes.
Augustana finally got on the board in the 82nd minute when Tymkowicz buried one to make the score 2-1. With a minute to go in the game, Stevens had a chance to tie it with a shot that hit the crossbar.
The Vikings outshot the Jennies 20-12 in the game.
Augustana will return to the field Saturday as they host Nebraska-Kearney at 11 a.m.
