Augustana Volleyball earns two wins to close out Washburn Invite

Topeka, Kan. - Augustana Volleyball  picked up two key victories over Emporia State (1-2) and Missouri Southern State (0-4), on the final day of the Washburn Invitational to improve their season record to 3-1.
 
In the opener the Vikings were lead by junior Kelsey Kaufmann, who posted a career high 16 kills and a middle blocking unit, who for the second straight game posted double-digit team blocks. In the afternoon game it was a season high team attacking percentage that lead the way for a Vikings sweep of the Tigers.
 
Match One
Kelsey Kaufmann  had a career game against the Hornets of Emporia State. She posted career highs in kills (16), attacks (33) and hitting percentage with a minimum of 20 attacks (.424). Fellow juniors Brittany Cech and Dani Magdzas each tallied double-digit kills of their own. Cech earned 10 kills, her sixth straight game reaching the double-digit mark, dating back to Nov. 7 of last season. Madgzas also set career marks in kills (10), attacks (21) and hitting percentage (.333).
 
Sophomore Tahlyr Banks followed up a record setting night of 50 digs, setting a school record and giving her the 16th most digs in a five set match in NCAA history, with another solid outing of 24 digs. Junior Ivy Pearson adding 12, and Cech added another 10 to the team total.
 
Junior Becca Finley led the team in total blocks with seven. Kaufmann had three blocks while Cech, Hunsley and freshman Tia Dille-Starks each had two of their own.

Game one started out slow for the Vikings as they lost a close one in set one 23-25. Augustana rebounded nicely though in the next three sets, not allowing the

Red-shirt freshman Lauren Waite led the Vikings in total kills against Missouri Southern State with 12. Cech added to her consecutive double-digit kills streak with 11 and led the team with a .476 hitting percentage. Magdzas added eight kills of her own followed closely by Kaufmann with six.
 
Banks added 12 digs in the three set match against the Tigers. Cech added to the team digs total with eight while the Waite added seven of her own.
Waite continued her quality statistical game with a team leading three blocks. She was followed closely by Finley who had two blocks and Hunsley and Magdzas who each had one.

Augustana earned a three-sets to none match victory over the Tigers of Missouri Southern State to improve their season record to 3-1. The Vikings were able to defeat Missouri State by set scores of 25-23, 25-18 and 25-19.

Augustana will be in action next Friday (Sept. 11) as they host the Augustana Showcase Volleyball tournament at the Elmen Center. The Vikings will play Black Hills State and Northwest Missouri State on Friday and Southwest Baptist and Grand Valley State on Saturday.
