SIOUX FALLS, S.D.- The Augustana women's basketball team (13-3, 7-3 NSIC) earned the season sweep of Minnesota State (4-9, 3-6 NSIC) Saturday night, coming away with an 87-73 victory on the road.
It took both teams a while to settle into the game and find a rhythm offensively. By the time the under five-minute media timeout had been reached, there had been a total of 10 points scored, five for each team. But the break seemed to be just what the Vikings needed as they rattled off 11 straight points to take a 17-5 lead. The Mavericks however used a strong second-quarter to fight their way back, ending the half on a 12-4 run of their own and cutting the Viking lead to just two.
Minnesota State put a scare into the Vikings as they opened the third-quarter on a 7-0 run and grabbed a 41-36 lead. That would be the last time MSU would have the lead as the Vikings put together a 10-0 run if the own and eventually grew their lead to a game-high, 20-points at the end of the fourth-quarter. Augustana would go on to defeat Minnesota State by a score of 87-73. The Vikings earned the season sweep of the Mavericks with the win, their first season sweep over the Mavericks since the 2010-11 season.
