CROOKSTON, Minn. - The seventh ranked Augustana volleyball team (22-4, 13-3 NSIC) continued their successful season with a 25-13, 25-20, 25-11 victory Saturday afternoon against the University of Minnesota Crookston (9-15, 5-11 NSIC).
Augustana wasted little time building a lead against the Golden Eagles. The Vikings scored the first three points and seven of the first 11. After UMC ended a 4-0 Viking run, Augustana scored four straight to make it 11-4. Augustana didn't let up cruising to a 25-13 set one win.
The second set was much closer with Golden Eagles getting on the board early to take a 4-2 lead. UMC held onto the lead for the early portion of the set, until Augustana tied the set at eight and eventually took a 10-8 lead. The set remained close throughout with the Vikings only able to extend their lead to four until the final few points. The Vikings took the set 25-20.
Augustana started the third set on a 6-0 run the turned into a 9-2 lead. After two Golden Eagle points the Vikings again put a large run together, this time a 10-1 run, to take a commanding 19-5 lead. Augustana made quick work of Minnesota Crookston, winning the set 25-11 and the match 3-0.
Viking of the Match
Tahlyr Banks set the tone for the defense on Saturday with a match-high 14 digs. Banks also earned a kill in the third set which started as great defensive play until the ball found the back corner for the point. Banks also had one service ace on the day.
