SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana soccer team starts postseason play on Wednesday as they host Minnesota Duluth in the NSIC Tournament. The Vikings and the Bulldogs will kickoff their NSIC Quarterfinal matchup at 3 p.m. on Nov. 2 at Morstad Field.
NSIC Tournament
Augustana University (11-4-3, 10-2-3 NSIC) has earned the No. 4 seed and will take on No. 5 seed Minnesota Duluth in the NSIC Quarterfinals.
The top eight teams in the final regular season standings earned a bid to the NSIC Tournament. The top-four teams will host the quarterfinals on Wednesday, Nov. 2 and the highest remaining seed will host the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 4 and the finals on Sunday, Nov. 6.
Augustana will host the quarterfinals for the third consecutive NSIC Tournament and are 1-1 in those contests.
Scouting Minnesota Duluth
Minnesota Duluth finished the 2016 regular season at 8-5-5 (6-4-5 NSIC). Last week the Bulldogs defeated Minnesota Crookston and tied Bemidji State.
Minnesota Duluth leads the all-time series 11-5-2 over Augustana. Augustana and Duluth tied 1-1 on Oct. 23 in their only matchup this season in Duluth, Minn. The Bulldogs own a 2-0 record against the Vikings in NSIC Tournament matchups having won 1-0 in 2014 in Sioux Falls and 2-1 in 2011 in Duluth.
Regular Season Recap
The Vikings concluded the 2016 regular season with victories over SMSU and USF to improve to 11-4-3 (10-2-3 NSIC) on the season. It was fourth consecutive 10-win season for Augustana and it's the sixth in the program's 17 year history.
The Vikings stumbled after a season opening victory over Southwest Baptist dropping three matches and recording one tie. Augustana went 1-2 in non-conference play and 0-1-1 to start NSIC play.
Augustana turned it around after that going on to win six straight. Following a hiccup to Minnesota State in the middle of October, the Vikings went unbeaten in their final six games recording four wins and two ties.
