ST. PAUL, Minn. – Augustana soccer continues to roll through NSIC play with a win Friday night against Concordia-St. Paul, 2-0. The Vikings won their sixth straight and improved to 7-3-1 (6-1-1 NSIC) on the season.
The first half went back-and-forth until
Julie Plonsky netted the first goal of the match in the 38th minute. Plonsky scored on a
Brooke Bleeker free kick to give the Vikings the 1-0 lead.
The first 15 minutes of the second half saw little action before Augustana sent in four subs for a change of pace in the game. The move paid off when freshman
Samantha Schorzman, appearing in her first career match, scored in the 64th minute putting the game out of reach at 2-0. Schorzman's goal was assisted by fellow freshman
Grace Behm, good for her first career assist.
Taylor Machacek was masterful in the net again recording three saves and notching her fourth shutout in five games. During the six game winning streak Augustana has outscored opponents 16-2.
Offensively, Augustana outshot Concordia-St. Paul 16-15 and finished with seven shots on goal compared to three by the Golden Bears.
Kallie Nordberg took five shots on the night for the Vikings and put three on goal.
Augustana will return home for a showdown with Minnesota State on Sunday. The match will be at 1 p.m. at Morstad Field.
