Soccer’s Winning Streak Comes to an End against Minnesota State

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana soccer suffered their first setback in three weeks on Sunday ending the Vikings six game winning streak. Minnesota State defeated Augustana at Morstad Field, 4-0, handing the Vikings their first home loss of the season. The Vikings drop to 7-4-1 (6-2-1 NSIC) on the season.

Minnesota State scored two goals in each half giving the Mavericks the victory. The four goals given up were the most the Vikings had allowed this season.

Offensively, the Mavericks outshot the Vikings 28-7 and had 12 shots on goal compared to three by Augustana. Kallie Nordberg and Samantha Tymkowicz each had two shots and a shot on goal.

Taylor Machacek recorded eight saves on the day. Machacek will go into next weekend looking to break the school's wins record. Machacek tied the school record on Friday with 25 career wins.

Next week the Vikings will host two games at Morstad Field. On Saturday, Oct. 15 at 11 a.m. the Vikings will take on Bemidji State and on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. Augustana takes on Minnesota-Crookston.
