Soccer Takes On Minot State in NSIC Semifinals

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana soccer team continues postseason play in the NSIC Semifinals on Friday in Minot, N.D. The No. 4 Vikings will take on No. 1 Minot State on their home turf with kickoff set for 3 p.m.
 
Scouting Minot State
Minot State is 16-1-1 (14-0-1 NSIC) on the season and are ranked No. 11 in NSCAA Division II Soccer Poll and No. 3 in the Central Region rankings. The Beavers opened the NSIC tournament with a 3-1 victory over No. 8 Upper Iowa, running their unbeaten streak to 16 games.

The Beavers had two student-athletes earn three NSIC player of the year awards. Senior forward Ninfa Ramirez was named NSIC Offensive Player of the Year after leading the conference in points (47) and goals (18). Redshirt freshman goalie Erin Rafferty was named NSIC Goalkeeper and Freshman of the Year after going 11-1-1 with 43 saves.

Augustana holds the all-time series advantage with a 4-3 lead, but Minot State won their only meeting this season. Minot State defeated Augustana on Sept. 17 in Minot, N.D., 3-0. Last season, the Vikings defeated the Beavers in the NSIC Semifinals in Mankato, Minn., 2-1.
 
The Final Four
No. 4 Augustana and No. 1 Minot State occupy one side of the bracket and will play at 3 p.m. on Friday in Minot, N.D. to determine who advances to the NSIC Finals.

No. 2 Minnesota State and No. 3 Bemidji State are set to do battle at 12 p.m. on Friday in Minot, as well. The winner will advance to take on the winner of Augustana/Minot State in the NSIC Finals.

This will be the first time since 2010 that the Semifinals and Finals will not be held in Mankato, Minn. and it will be the first time they are ever held in Minot, N.D.

Of the four remaining teams, Minnesota State has the most NSIC tournament titles with four. Augustana captured their first last season and Minot State and Bemidji State have never won the NSIC tournament.
