ORANGE, California – The Augustana women's basketball team (1-1) lost their first game of the season Saturday afternoon at the hands of Simon Fraser, 75-70.
 
Augustana and Simon Fraser (1-1) were in a battle early as the two teams traded buckets throughout the first-quarter. The Vikings never trailed in the quarter but every time they earned a four-point lead, Simon Fraser knotted the score. The two teams were tied six different times in the quarter but Augustana took a 20-18 lead into quarter two.
 
In the second quarter, it looked as though the Vikings were finding their stride and poised to take the game over building a 10-point lead at 33-23 midway through the quarter. As the lead hit double-digits for the first time in the contest, Simon Fraser went on a 10-0 run to tie it at 33. The Vikings ended their run to take the lead back before a triple by Simon Fraser put the Vikings in a one point hole. The Vikings took the lead back as they ended the quarter on a 7-0 run, and went into the break with a 42-36 lead.
 
Augustana came out of the locker rooms and went on a 6-2 run to take a 46-40 advantage early in the quarter. Simon Fraser cut the deficit triple but Augustana was able to answer with a jumper to extend their lead to five. Simon Fraser took their first lead since the 2:43 mark in the second after back-to-back-to-back threes. Simon Fraser extended their lead to four at 60-56 at the end of the third quarter.
 
The Vikings were unable to get anything going at the start of the final quarter as Simon Fraser scored seven straight to take an 11-point lead. Augustana climbed back into it, cutting the Simon Fraser lead to just two. The last ditch effort of Augustana wasn't enough, as the Vikings fell 75-70.
