BISMARCK, N.D. - No. 21 Augustana men's basketball (8-2, 4-1 NSIC) picked up the victory Saturday night in Bismarck, N.D. after defeating U-Mary (5-6, 3-2 NSIC) 89-75.
The Vikings started slow after coming off a loss Friday night. Augustana was down four early to the University of Mary before a three from
Jordan Spencer got the Vikings on the board three minutes into the game. Augustana took their first lead of the half at 9-6 after
John Warren buried a triple.
The Marauders were able to tie the game at 13 with just over 12 minutes remaining before Augustana began to roll. The Vikings got back-to-back jumpers by
Adam Beyer and Spencer to make it 20-15 Vikings. A few minutes later the Vikings were able to extend their lead to double-digits after Spencer hit two free throws. U-Mary was able to get to within six points late in the half but Augustana flex their muscles down the stretch, taking a 49-35 lead into the locker room.
Augustana opened the half by adding four points to the 6-0 run that they ended the first half on to take a 53-35 lead. U-Mary made an attempt to cut into the deficit with seven straight points but Spencer,
Mike Busack and Steven Schafer scored seven in a row for the Vikings to once again get their lead to 21-points.
The University of Mary used a 5-0 run late in the half to get to within 14-points but a Busack triple ended their run and put the lead back up to 17-points at 86-69. Augustana didn't allow U-Mary any closer than 14-points the rest of the game as they defeated the University of Mary 89-75.
Viking of the Game
Adam Beyer led the way for Augustana, tying his career-high with 24-points. He was a perfect 4-for-4 from behind the three-point line and 7-of-10 from the field. Beyer filled up the stat sheet with a team-high seven boards while adding one assist and one steal.
