WICHITA, Kan. - After Newman (12-5) scored 18 runs in game one to defeat the Vikings, Augustana (4-3) was able to score 16 runs of their own in game two to split today's doubleheader as well as the four game series in Wichita.
GAME ONENewman got their bats going early in the first inning using back-to-back singles from Lucas Norton and Tyler Bugner to score the first two runs of the afternoon. But in the top half of the second inning
Alex Beals sent his second homerun of the season over the left field fence to bring the Vikings to within a run. Later in the inning
Jacob James would be driven in by
Justin Warne who singled to left field.
Augustana grabbed their first lead of the game in the third inning when
Patrick Fiala and
Alex Fink each doubled to begin the inning, scoring Fink. After
Kris Ashland flew out to right field advancing Fink to third,
TJ Davis singled to center scoring Fink and giving the Vikings a two run advantage. The Vikings lead didn't last long though as Newman's Garett Thomas hit his second 2-run home run in as many days.
Newman broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring five runs on two hits. The Vikings picked up a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to get within two runs but Newman added another nine runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the game away.

VIKING OF NOTEAlex Beals hit his second homerun of the season in the second inning. Beals had four at-bats with two hits, one RBI and two runs scored. In the field he earned four putouts.

GAME TWOThe Vikings put the end of game one behind them quickly as they jumped on the Jets from the start.
Patrick Fiala got things going with a single up the middle before being driven in by
Alex Fink, who singled to left field. Next up was
TJ Davis who drove the first pitch he saw to deep left center to give the Vikings a 3-0 lead after the first inning.
After
Ryne Lees got a 1,2,3 bottom of the 1st inning
Lucas Barry sent a pitch over the right center field fence. In the next at-bat
Carter Wevik made it 5-0 Vikings after accomplishing one of the most exciting plays in baseball, an inside the park home run.
The runs continued for Augustana in the third and fourth innings as the Vikings added another run in the third after a leadoff walk by Fink set up a sacrifice fly opportunity for
Lucas Wilber. In the fourth the Vikings got two more insurance runs when Warne hit a 2-run home run scoring Wevik who reach on a single through the left side. Warne's home run made it 8-0 Augustana.
In the sixth inning Augustana reached double-digit runs when Fiala hot a double to left center scoring Wevik and Warne. Fink then doubled down the right field line scoring Fiala to make it 11-0 Vikings. Newman got on the board in the bottom of the sixth when Jordan Doan hit a 2-run shot.
Wilber started a five run top of the seventh when he led of the inning with his first and the team's fifth home run of the season, giving the Vikings a 16-2 lead. Newman added three runs in the bottom of the seventh but it wasn't enough as Augustana defeated Newman 16-5 in game two.

VIKING OF NOTERyne Lees got more than enough run support in game two Sunday but  he starred on the mound for Augustana. Lees threw six solid innings giving up just four hits and two runs while striking out four. Lees improved his overall record to 2-0 on the season.
VIKING NOTABLES• This is the third time this season that Augustana has scored double-digit runs
• Augustana's five home runs is their most in a game since they hit five at Upper Iowa on May 2nd of last year. They hit five home runs twice last year
• Augustana turned their second double-play of the season
• Augustana left four runners on base while Newman left six
• Four Vikings earned doubles: Fiala and Beals each had two while Fink and Wilber had one
