ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The Augustana University baseball team (20-10, 11-3 NSIC) lost both games of Saturday's doubleheader to No. 1 St. Cloud State (28-2, 13-2 NSIC). The Vikings were able to score runs at will, 14 in game one and 6 in game two, but were unable to limit the damage on the defensive end falling in game one 18-14 and 9-6 in game two.
Game OneAugustana opened game one on a mission, jumping on No. 1 St. Cloud State to the tune of eight runs in the first inning, but it wasn't enough as the Huskies defeated the Vikings 18-14.
Justin Warne starting things off for the Vikings with a walk before being driven in by
Alex Fink who doubled. After Fink stole third, Fiala earned a singled and advanced to second on an SCSU error, scoring Fink and making it 2-0 Vikings.
Later in the first inning
Lucas Barry made some noise with his bat as he blasted a 3-run home run, scoring Fiala and
Lucas Wilber who reach base on a hit by pitch. The runs kept coming for the Vikings when
Tyler Field continued his impressive play with a 2-run home run. The Vikings final run of the inning came on a
Patrick Fiala single which scored Warne, making it 8-0 Vikings.
The No. 1 team showed why they are ranked where they are in the bottom half of the inning scoring five runs, two of which were home runs to get back into the game. After the Vikings went quietly in the top of the second, SCSU hit another 2-run home run to make it 8-7 Vikings. They later took the lead in the second inning.
The Vikings didn't go away though, tying the game at nine all in the third when O'Donnell drove in his second run of the ball game. One batter later the Vikings regained the lead when Fink connected with a pitch for a 2-run home run to make it 11-9 Vikings. After the Vikings retook the lead, SCSU scored four runs in the bottom of the third and five runs in the fourth to make the score 18-11.
Augustana made a late rally in the top of the sixth inning. After back-to-back singles from Fiala and
Alex Beals, Wilber joined the home run club with a 3-run shot to bring the Vikings to within four runs. The Vikings weren't able to pull any closer, falling 18-14 in game one.

Game TwoJust like in game one the Vikings got out to an early lead after O'Donnell hit a home run to score the game's first run and give the Vikings an early 1-0 lead.
In the second inning Augustana got things started with a lead off single from Barry. He would advance to third on the next play as Wilber hit a double. The Vikings first run of the second inning came off the bat of Warne who ground out to second allowed Barry to score. Augustana scored once more in the inning when O'Donnell doubled scoring Wilber. St. Cloud State took a 4-3 lead in the bottom half of the inning with a grand slam.
After scoring one in the first and two in the second, it only seemed right that the Vikings should score three runs in the third. Trailing by one with runners on second and third, Barry hit his second 3-run home run of the day, first came in game one, to give the Vikings a 6-4 advantage. The Huskies were able to pull within a run in the bottom half of the inning.
The Vikings lead held until the fifth inning when a home run tied the game at six and the Huskies took control of the game in the seventh, scoring two runs. The final run of the game went to SCSU in the eighth inning on a home run. Augustana was unable to score in the ninth, falling to SCSU 9-6 in game two.
