Men's basketball earns NABC Academic Excellence Award; four individuals named to Honors Court

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches announced today the 2015-16 NABC Honors Court, recognizing men's basketball collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in in academics during the past season, and the fourth annual Team Academic Excellence Awards.
 
Augustana was honored as a team with the Team Academic Excellence Award and also had four individuals named to the NABC Honors Court, including Zach Huisken, Tanner Odegaard, Austin Saugstad and Casey Schilling.
 
To be named to the NABC Honors Court, a student-athlete must be a junior or senior varsity player with a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher at the conclusion of the 2015-16 academic year. The NABC Team Academic Excellence Award recognizes teams with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for the academic year.
 
Huisken, an elementary education major from Chandler, Minnesota, was also named to the Academic All-NSIC team for the second straight season in 2015-16. He played in all 36 games last season, making two starts, while averaging 3.8 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. Huisken made his first start of the season against Tarleton State in the opening round of the Elite Eight and finished with 13 points and eight rebounds. He finished the year shooting 45.3 percent from the field and 69.4 percent from behind the arc.
 
Odegaard played in 30 games his senior season, making one start. He averaged 2.9 points per game and shot 47.4 percent from the field, knocking down 26 3-pointers. Odegaard, a native of Brookings, South Dakota, graduated from Augustana as a business administration major and a two-time Academic All-NSIC honoree.
 
Saugstad, a two-time Academic All-NSIC award winner, played in 28 games in 2015-16 while dishing out 32 assists to go along with 30 points and 23 rebounds. Saugstad, a native of Marshall, Minnesota is a biology major at Augustana.
 
Schilling is an elementary education major from Ellsworth, Minnesota who finished his career at Augustana as a three-time All-NSIC honoree and two-time NSIC Defensive Player of the Year. Schilling is a two-time Academic All-NSIC honoree who was selected to six All-America teams during his career. He became the second player in school history to score 2,000-plus career points and ended his career ranked second all-time in scoring (2,054 points) and third in rebounds (997). Schilling averaged 19.6 points and a team-high 9.7 rebounds last season and set the single season rebounding record with 349.
 
Augustana men's basketball won a school record 34 games in 2015-16, finishing the year 34-2 on its way to the program's first National championship. The Vikings won their second straight NSIC Regular Season and Tournament Championships before winning the NCAA Central Region Championship for the first time in school history.
