SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - No. 22 Augustana (7-1) suffered their first loss of the season Saturday night at the hands of No. 13 Winona State (20-25, 27-29, 18-25) in the final match of the Augustana Invitational.

Augustana started the first set off well jumping out to a 3-2 lead but Winona State was able to take the lead shortly after. The two teams traded points with neither able to grow a lead larger than than four points until WSU made it 23-17 and eventually defeating the Vikings 25-20 in set one.

Set two was a back-and-forth affair though as neither team was able to pull away. Augustana earned four of the first five points of the set before the Warriors took the lead at 5-4. Winona State was able to increase their lead to three but Augustana then came back tying the set at 13. After the 13-13 tie, Augustana and Winona State traded the next 28 points until Winona State broke the streak and took the final two points to win the set 29-27.

After the heartbreaking second set loss Augustana looked as though they were not going to give up set three. The Vikings won the first two points but WSU eventually grabbed a 6-3 lead. Augustana attempted to cut into the deficit but were unable to as they fell 25-18 in the final set.

Augustana will be on the road Tuesday, Sept. 15 when they travel to Marshall, Minn. to take on Southwest Minnesota State. Their next home match will be Saturday Sept. 17 against cross town rival Sioux Falls. The match against Sioux Falls is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. All military personal will get in free to the match with their military I.D.
