WINONA, Minn. – The Augustana soccer team defeated NSIC foe Winona State on Sunday, 1-0. The Vikings won their third straight game and improved to 4-3-1 (3-1-1 NSIC) on the season.

Augustana earned their fourth consecutive win over Winona State after losing their first 10 meetings with the Warriors. The Vikings have won each of the last four matchups by a score of 1-0.

The Vikings were led by junior Taylor Machacek who recorded her second consecutive shutout. They were Machacek's first two shutouts of the season. Machacek recorded six saves to preserve the shutout.

The lone goal of the game came in the 68th minute when sophomore Julie Plonsky snuck it past the goalie from five yards out. Plonsky's goal was assisted by senior Emily Jacobson which was her team-high third assist on the season.

Junior Ellie Knowles and sophomore Rebecca Gasper led the Vikings with three shots apiece. Gasper and Plonsky each had two shots on goal for Augustana.

Augustana outshot Winona State 14-11 and had seven shots on goal compared to six by the Warriors.

The Vikings will return home next weekend for a pair of games on Saturday and Sunday. On Oct. 1 Augustana will host MSU Moorhead at 11 a.m. and will take on Northern State on Oct. 2 at 1 p.m. Both matches will be played at Morstad Field.
