Volleyball completes epic comeback against Central Washington to remain perfect

ROMEOVILLE, ILL. - Augustana volleyball has no quit in them. After losing the first two sets of the match against Central Washington the Vikings battled all the way back to earn a three sets to two victory Saturday and preserve their perfect weekend.

Playing their fourth match in two days, Augustana (4-0) was looking to conclude the weekend with a perfect 4-0 record at the Lewis University Flyer Festival. But after the first two sets, and two narrow losses (25-20, 25-21) it wasn't looking good.

In set three though, the Vikings flipped a switch. They lost the first two points of set three but then won four of the next five. But it was when they trailed 13-8 that everything seemed to fall into place for Augustana. They continued to cut into the deficit, slowly chipping away until the tied it at 20 all. After tying it at 20, Augustana earned five of the next seven points to take the set.

After getting some momentum with a third set win, Augustana jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the fourth. As the Vikings added points so did Central Washington, tying the match at 10. After the 10-10 tie though, the Vikings would not allow CWU to get within two points and eventually tying the match a 2-sets apiece with a 25-22 set win.

After battling from a 0-2 hole and having two, 5-set wins under their belts this season, the Vikings had the confidence to earn the victory in the fifth set. The Vikings fell into an early 5-2 deficit but battled back to tie the match at seven and eventually grab their first lead at 9-8. The teams then traded points for each of the next 11-points until Augustana was able to grab the final two points of the match and win the set 16-15.
