Soccer Stymies the Dragons in a 1-0 Win on Sunday

MOORHEAD, Minn. - The Augustana soccer team (7-1-2, 6-0-1 NSIC) added to its winning streak and shutout streak in a 1-0 win against MSU Moorhead (1-6-2, 1-5-1 NSIC) on Sunday afternoon in Moorhead, Minn.

The Vikings improved their winning streak to seven consecutive matches and have eight straight shutouts. Augustana's seven straight wins are the most since 2015 when they had a pair of eight match winning streaks.

Six of Augustana's seven wins this season have come by 1-0 wins, including the last three matches. Augustana improves to 16-1 all-time against MSU Moorhead and have won the last 16 matches against the Dragons.

Mackenzie Main put the Vikings on the broad in the 11th minute on a Samantha Tymkowicz pass. Main netted her first goal of the season, which proved to be the game winner for Augustana.

The Vikings controlled most of the match having outshot the Dragons, 28-7 and putting up 14 shots on goal compared to just two by the Dragons. Augustana also owned the corner kick advantage with eight corners to zero Dragon corners.

Taylor Machacek was stout in the net again, recording two saves and notching her eighth shutout of the season. Machacek now has 25 career shutouts.

Offensively, Tymkowicz, Reiley Klose and Ellie Knowles each had five shots and Tymkowicz led the way with three shots on goal .

Next weekend, the Vikings will host Concordia-St. Paul on Friday, Oct. 6 at 4 p.m. at Morstad Field and will wrap up the weekend against No. 13 Minnesota State on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 1 p.m. in Mankato, Minn.
