SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Top-seeded Kornelia Staniszewska of the Augustana women's tennis team defeated Tatjana Stoll of Northeastern State University (6-2, 6-4) to win the ITA Central Regional Championships Sunday afternoon.
With the win, Staniszewska clinched a spot at the National tournament Oct. 11-15 in Rome, Georgia, and will be one of the final eight girls competing for a national championship.
"I'm really proud of her," head tennis coach
Marc Kurtz said. "She has been waiting for a year to get this opportunity to play in the regional tournament. As a coach, I'm just really proud of her. She totally deserved and earned the win. She's excited to get to nationals."
In the semifinals, Staniszewsa took down Laetitia Charbonnet (6-4, 7-6) of Central Oklahoma.
In the women's single B draw,
Grace Goble picked up a (3-6, 6-3, 10-8) win before dropping a (6-2, 3-6, 1-5) match to Claire Neil from the University of Nebraska-Kearney.
Taylor Jackson fell (6-3, 5-7, 105) to Marta Ferrando of Northwest Missouri State in Single A.
In men's doubles,
Charlie Adkins and
Logan Barr suffered their first loss of the regional as the pair fell (8-5) to Daniel Aguilera and Lucas Castelo Branco.
