SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Kornelia Staniszewska, a junior from Opalenie, Poland, became the first Augustana singles women's tennis player to participate in a national event over the weekend.

Staniszewska along with her head coach Marc Kurtz traveled to Rome, Georgia as Staniszewska earned the third seed at the 2017 ITA Oracle Cup.

Staniszewska lost her first match (6-1, 7-6 (5)) to Lena Dimmer of New York Institute of Technology as well as her second match (3-6, 7-5, 6-0) to Saioa Gomez de Segura of Mercyhurst. She was unable to compete in her final match due to injury.

Earlier this month, Staniszewska won the ITA Central Region Championship to qualify for the 2017 Oracle Cup.

This was the second time Staniszewska qualified for the ITA Oracle Cup, as she was a doubles participant in 2015 with Jessa Richards.
