Tymkowicz’s Hat Trick Propels Vikings over USF

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Goals have been hard to come by for the Augustana women's soccer team (11-2-4, 10-1-3 NSIC) this season, but senior Samantha Tymkowicz had a breakout game in the 4-1 victory over crosstown rival Sioux Falls (5-9-3, 4-7-3 NSIC) at Morstad Field on Friday afternoon to overcome those issues.

Tymkowicz netted the first three Vikings goals on Friday, notching the first hat trick of her illustrious career at Augustana. Tymkowicz's recorded the first hat trick since teammate Allie Marshall recorded one last season against SMSU on Oct. 28, 2016, almost a year to the date.

The four goals were the Vikings second most on the season and their third multi goal game of the season. Augustana outshot USF 14-5 and had eight shots on goal compared to two by the Cougars.

Tymkowicz but the Vikings on the board early in the first half, scoring her first goal on a cross from Lauren Brownrigg in the seventh minute. Tymkowicz added another goal in the 21st minute on a corner from Courtney Almendinger and passed out from Hannah Keirstead to give the Vikings a 2-0 lead at half.

Tymkowicz notched the hat trick in the 64th minute after taking a ball by herself, skating by the Cougar defense and firing a shot from 18-yards out. Sioux Falls would net its only goal less than a minute later on a Lindsey Power free kick that was affected by the wind and found its way into the back of the net.

Jensen Froehlich put an end to the scoring with her first goal of the season in the 84th minute, giving the Vikings a 4-1 victory.

With the win, Augustana clinched a top-four seed in the NSIC tournament and will host the opening round of the tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at Morstad Field at 3 p.m.

The Vikings conclude the regular season with a road matchup against SMSU (1-15, 1-13 NSIC) on Sunday, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. in Marshall, Minn.
