SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Taking first place in nine of the 11 events, the Augustana women's swim team dominated their first meet of the 2017 season Friday night at the Midco Aquatic Center. Taking place in the triangular meet was the University of Mary, Northern State University and Augustana.
In the three duals, Mary defeated Northern State, 103 to 102. The Vikings defeated Mary 141 to 64, and Northern State 148 to 57.
Augustana kicked off the triangular with a win in the 400 yard medley relay. Freshman
Kelsey Gilbert took first place in the 1650 yard freestyle to give the Vikings two champions through two events.
In the 200 yard freestyle,
Taylor Beagle took first place while
Destini Oehlertz took the championship in the 50 yard freestyle.
Jojo Lohner brought home the championship for the Vikings in the 400 yard while Oehlertz marked her second first place finish in the seventh event with the 100 yard freestyle. Beagle nailed her second first place finish on the night in the ninth event in the 500 yard freestyle.
In the 10th event,
Claire Washenberger brought home her first individual first place finish in the 200 yard freestyle.
To wrap things up, Augustana won the 400 yard freestyle relay.
The Vikings return to action Saturday, when Mary, Northern State and Augustana return to the Midco Aquatic center for another triangular. The first event takes place at 10 a.m.
