MANKATO, Minn. - The Augustana soccer team (8-2-2, 7-1-1 NSIC) saw its eight match winning streak snapped by No. 11 Minnesota State (10-1-1, 8-0-1 NSIC) in Mankato, Minn. on Sunday afternoon, 3-0.
With the loss, the Vikings drop into third in the NSIC standings with six NSIC matches left in the regular season. The Mavericks remain tied with Bemidji State for first place in the conference.
Minnesota State got the scoring started on a Lexi Pszanka goal in the 17th minute, to give the Mavericks a 1-0 lead. Augustana had opportunities in the first half, but couldn't find the back of the net.
The Mavericks sealed the win with two second half goals. Molly Sarafolean scored in the 67th minute and Jenny Hoerter scored in the 85th minute to give Minnesota State the 3-0 victory.
Minnesota State outshot Augustana, 23-13 and had 10 shots on goal compared to six by the Vikings.
Taylor Machacek tallied seven saves on the afternoon.
Ellie Knowles and
Samantha Tymkowicz were the only Vikings with multiple shots. Knowles finished with five and Tymkowicz had four.
Augustana will be on the road next weekend, first traveling to Crookston, Minn. to take on Minnesota Crookston on Oct. 14 at 1 p.m. The Vikings conclude the weekend against Bemidji State in Bemidji, Minn. on Oct. 15 at 1 p.m.
